Nursing research is defined as “a scientific process that validates and refines existing knowledge and generates new knowledge that directly and indirectly influences nursing practice†(Grove, Gray & Burns, 2015, p. 3.).
National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) is a public resource for summaries of evidence-based clinical practice guideline initiated by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). NGC “supports AHRQ’s mission to produce evidence to make health care safer, higher quality, more accessible, equitable, and affordable by providing objective, detailed information on clinical practice guidelines, and to further their dissemination, implementation, and use in order to inform health care decisions†(NGC, 2016.
The potential research studies that can be created with the help of this source is so many. One potential problem in my facility that I would like to be researched on is “long waiting times in the emergency waiting roomâ€. I have witnessed so many patient’s spending hours in the waiting room before they are able to be seen or attended to. The patient flow can be very slow in my facility because there are a lot of ambulances calling in and no inpatient beds for patient that are being admitted. As a result of this, the pending inpatients occupy the beds/rooms in the emergency room that would have been used for patient’s in the waiting room. These patients sit in the emergency waiting room for hours and I feel so bad for them. Imagine coming into the emergency room because you accidentally cut your finger with a kitchen knife while making dinner and you end up spending four hours in the waiting room before being seen. This is not good.
I have also heard about similar experiences in emergency rooms in other states. This problem should be researched on and strategies to improve the problem should be developed.
