Health of population and reducing per capita of health care
The final exam for this course will be a four-page paper submitted electronically through Canvas by the posted exam date Monday, December 9 at 2:10 PM.
The exam is open book, open notes, with collaboration with classmates permitted and even encouraged. I would suggest that you talk about the issues in your team. I expect to see your original work, not copied from someone else’s paper, and not a group paper. So the balance that I seek is for you to learn from the impressions and ideas of others while showing your own original critical thinking and writing.
The standard of grading will be higher for this exam, since you have time to think about it, reviewing notes and slides from cases, guest speakers, articles, and lectures. Address the issues listed in the Triple Aim and explain how engineers, managers, scientists, analysts, and policy graduates have as much to contribute as Georgia Tech graduates who will become physicians and other clinicians with direct contact with patients. If you personally intend to go into the healthcare industry, address how you hope to change or impact healthcare for the better.
Cite takeaway messages from cases, guest lectures, and class discussions to support your positions.
We have stressed all semester that the significant turmoil in the healthcare sector is the result of a complete transformation currently underway in the industry. Furthermore, we have seen that the skill sets of Georgia Tech graduates are badly needed in order for the changes to result in the achievement of the Triple Aim:
- Improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction);
- Improving the health of populations; and
- Reducing the per capita cost of health care.
