Aspects learned about WRITING and DEVELOPING a Thesis Statement

A thesis statement is a very important part of a paper that plays a key role in informing readers about the content of the whole paper in a summarized form. When writing a thesis statement, one has to understand what the paper or essay will entail and state them explicitly. Most topics cover many subtopics and aspects that can be discussed in the paper (Indiana University, 2022). However, a single paper might not cover all the aspects, hence the writer should specify the areas to be handled in the paper in the thesis statement.

When writing a thesis statement, one has to understand their stand and arguments concerning a given situation or topic of debate (The Writing Center, 2022). A topic of discussion may elicit many arguments and contrary opinions from people. Similarly, there might be numerous impacts of a given situation or occurrence. One might not cover all the impacts or arguments in a single paper or essay. Therefore, one must think critically about what a paper or essay will cover and specify the argument they will support or the impact they will discuss before writing a thesis statement. These are the aspects of writing a thesis statement one gets to learn and experience while composing a thesis statement.

In developing the three thesis statements above, critical thinking was necessary to check and identify the current healthcare issues currently affecting the US healthcare system. After identifying topics, I had to understand their impacts and manifestation before settling on what to discuss concerning the identified health issue. By giving such clarification, one can give his/her essay a specific focus. A thesis statements help keep the paper on the right course and prevent wandering off to unrelated topics or unnecessary subtopics (McCombes, 2019). As such, one has to be very specific and forward-thinking while contracting a thesis statement to ensure that they do not get mixed up in the course of the writing by wandering off the topic.

Additionally, from writing a thesis statement, one learns that it has to be complete and self-explanatory besides being a single sentence (McCombes, 2019). A thesis statement has many parts, including the topic of discussion, the aspect to be addressed, and the reason and arguments for focusing on that particular aspect of the topic. As such, subsequent discussion on the topic will try to justify arguments indicated in the thesis statement (McCombes, 2019). The thesis statement may only develop specific areas of the paper. By developing these points, one gets to fill the body of a paper or essay easily.

Therefore, a thesis statement is good for both the writer and the reader. One has to do some practice to be able to write a good thesis statement. Students should strive to learn how to write a good thesis statement. To do this, they should do a lot of practice, further reading, and consultations to perfect their thesis writing skills.
