The main characteristics demonstrated by the community activist in the film titled “The Interrupters” include fearlessness, good communication skills, ability to involve others in the activism process, knowledge on issues affecting the community, and ability to motivate and empower the members of the community. The activist involved other members of the community by asking them to come together and take action. She also demonstrated team work by creating a group whose role was to find ways of curbing violence in Chicago neighborhoods. The activist also demonstrated fearlessness by speaking openly about the issues affecting the community and visiting gang members who live through a lot of violence to help them change their lives. She also instilled hope and empowered the members of the community to see that they deserved to live better lives without the violence. The activist demonstrated communication skills when she interacted with the members of the community and spoke about the need for change.
The skills are very important because they ensured that the activist was able to create awareness about the issue of violence in the community and to recruit other people to focus on dealing with the issue. The characteristics also ensured that the activist interacted effectively with the people in the most dangerous areas and found ways of inspiring them to change. The activist also used her skills to move deliberately and take action against violence in the community. I believe that the organizer applied all skills needed to mobilize the community towards change and that there are no other skills that would have made the activism process more effective.
