Write a reflection journal (250-300 words) to outline what has been discovered about your professional practice, personal strengths and weaknesses, and additional resources that could be introduced in a given situation to influence optimal outcomes. Each week there will be a specific focus to use in your reflection. Integrate leadership and inquiry into the current practice. Please make sure to address all areas in your writing.

Week 2 Practicum Experience: Ethical Considerations in Health Care
Week 2 Practicum Experience: Ethical Considerations in Health Care
This week’s practicum focused on ethical considerations in healthcare. Since healthcare is a setting that involves multidisciplinary staff, various ethical considerations are in existence. It is the responsibility of nurses to identify, identify, and practice in accordance with these ethical issues (Nursing.org, 2022). During the practicum experience, different ethical issues were adhered to in order to ensure high-quality nursing care. The ethical considerations include the principles of justice and fairness, beneficence, non-maleficence, and autonomy. Nurses are required to be fair when distributing care or resources, they need to normalize doing good to patients, and they should cause no harm to the patient (Nursing.org, 2022). Autonomy and patient self-determination should be upheld at any time by accepting the patient’s preferences, beliefs, and uniqueness. Other important ethical issues include accountability and fidelity. Nurses are responsible for their own actions and must always remain faithful and true to their profession.
According to Haddad & Geiger (2022), the Code of Ethics for Nurses is divided into nine provisions to guide the nurses in their practice. For instance, provision 1 requires nurses to practice with compassion and respect for the inherent worth, dignity, and unique characteristics of every individual. Provision 2 advocates for nurses’ commitment to the patient, whether individual, family, or group. Nurses are also advised (in provision 3) to promote, advocate for, and protect the safety, health, and rights of the patient (Haddad & Geiger, 2022). All nurses when practicing must adhere to all the provisions.
