The Intervention Selection and Application Paper
The Center City Hospital has opted to conduct a one-day workshop for all internal managers as an OD intervention that will help build unity within the facility and forge a common focus. This followed a request by the CEO, DON, and the HRM of the hospital to avert the ongoing unprecedented low morale of nurses, and the detrimental relationship between doctors, unit managers, and nurses. The one-day workshop aims to start a discussion about the root cause of the problems and possible solutions from the managers’ perspectives. Both internal and external facilitators are expected to help in chairing the workshop and developing the solution.
Implementation Process
The organizing team will have to organize the workshop by selecting the venue, participants, and date, along with the goals, agenda, and program of the workshop (Azhfar, 2022).
The Goals of the Workshop
The CEO, DON, and the HRM have identified the primary goal as addressing the ongoing unprecedented low morale of nurses, and the detrimental relationship between doctors, unit managers, and nurses. With this, the workshop aims to provide solutions to this problem and build a common focus and unity within the organization and improve organizational performance.
Attendance
The workshop is organized for all managers within the organization. In addition to that, the organizer will select three facilitators to chair the workshop – one will be selected from the hospital and two will be outsourced.
Locations
The organizing team will choose a hotel outside the hospital to avoid internal disruptions (MindTools, 2022).
Time and date
The date will be agreed upon by the managers depending on their convenience. It will be on a workday to run at the cost of the organization, not individuals. It will start from 8 am to 5 pm to take normal working hours.
Agenda
- The causes of low morale among nurses
- Why the organizational doctors, unit managers, and nurses have a poor relationship
- Effective ways to address the situation
- The specific actions to be taken and when to undertake them.
- The expected outcome and the assessment methods
Follow up Plan
A follow-up plan will be developed to assess the impacts of the resolutions made during the workshop and how the effects will be measured. In this case, the hospital will use various sports such as monthly reports, quarterly reports, and annual reports. Additionally, the organization will organize a general survey a year after the workshop to quantify the changes that shall have taken place over that period, as attributed to the outcome of the workshop. Quantifiable indicators, such as the amount of money generated, the number of patients attended to per day, readmission rates, mortality rates, patients’ feedback, healthcare professionals’ feedback, rate of turnover, and others, will the used to measure the impacts of the workshop by comparing them with pre-workshop trends (Saunders, Palesy, & Lewis, 2019). The assessment will check whether the parameter has changed positively or negatively.
During the Workshop
Adequate communication will be given to all the attendees via all possible means, including emails, direct calls, and face-to-face meetings. The same instructions will be repeated at the kick-off of the workshop to ensure conversance. They will be provided with relevant materials, including books and pens if necessary. Projectors, laptops, and other necessary electronics will also be provided. Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack will also be served. The facilitators are at liberty to decide their own way of chairing the program and the presentations to be made to arrive at the expected outcome.
