Piirto (1977) provides relevant information about several themes including education of talent, diversity, reforms, gender, and social class. Dr. Jane Piirto also wrote about 12 issues in education. They include issues of time, issues of power, issues of the body, issues of the spirit, issues of the canon, issues of justice, issues of diversity, issues of language, issues of discourse, issues of desire and passion, issues of gender, and issues of imagination.

Two issues that I would agree with include issues of time and issues of power and class. Time is a critical concept in education. Everything in education is timed and it looks more like an exaggeration of time. The philosophy of modernity has resulted in overemphasis on time management, timed tests, wait time, time on task, and others. Indeed, students are rushed over the curriculum due to overemphasis on time. The other issue is the issue of power and class. Piirto (1977) states that the system is educating students to assume class and power in society. However, power, However, the underlying issue with power and class is how one views it. It is also true that when people stay silent, they support those in power.

The two issues I disagree with include the issues of canon and issues of gender. The issue of canon presents the dangers associated with using more recent works. Piirto (1977) views using recent work as a bad idea and may present dangers that are less respectable for school purposes. Piirto (1977) is also against the fact that some books are better than others. Students need to be innovative and competitive globally and that can only be achieved by reading more updated knowledge. In terms of gender, I don’t agree that academically talented female is at risk. Girls are currently rising to higher levels in education and they are no longer at risk.
