Assignment Overview:
The Professional Identity Assignment considers the components and competencies needed to grow your professional identity as you begin your RN-BSN program such as a theoretical framework, ethical comportment, a commitment to demonstrate moral courage, develop emotional intelligence, clarify personal and professional values, work a mentor, and achievement of short- and long-term goals.
The Professional Identify Assignment is an APA-formatted, scaffolded assignment. This means the paper is written using APA style guidelines, and the paper is broken down into drop box submissions: Part I and Part II. Scaffolding of the assignment allows the student to review and integrate instructor feedback into the final document while developing professional communication and scholarly writing skills.
Professional Identity Assignment- Part II
In this assignment, you will build upon what you have already completed in Part I (SEE PART I SHARED) to complete the Professional Identity Assignment.
** This assignment utilizes Turnitin. This means you must submit your paper to Turnitin and review your Originality Report. When you submit your assignment to Canvas, you will automatically submit to Turnitin as well. Grammarly and Smarthinking are encouraged, but not required.
Assignment Directions:
1. Access Part I of your Professional Identity Assignment and implement any recommended changes from faculty.
2. All of the Part I elements are included in the grading of the Part II submission. Below are the requirements from the Part I submission.
a. Introduction
i. The introduction will start with general background about your paper’s topic and end with your thesis statement which explains to the reader what to expect in the paper.
b. Reason for Choosing Nursing (suggested length is 1 paragraph)
1. Describe your reason for choosing the nursing profession.
c. Personal Philosophy of Nursing (suggested length is 2 paragraphs)
1. State your personal philosophy of nursing.
1. Discuss how your values and beliefs guide your conduct as a nurse and form your professional identity.
1. Identify at least two professional strengths and opportunities for growth that influence your personal philosophy of nursing. Strengths and opportunities could derive from, but are not limited to, emotional intelligence, ethical principles, moral courage, clinical/professional competence, confidence, communication, conflict management, etc. .
d. Transition to the Baccalaureate Role (suggested length is 2 paragraphs)
1. Using components from Bridges Model of Transition:
1. Describe where you are now in your transition.
1. Discuss how the model can continue to guide your transition.
1. Be sure to support your views with a scholarly source.
e. Identification of Short-term Goals (suggested length 1 paragraph)
1. Identify at least one, measurable short-term, professional goal to be completed by the end of your program.
1. How can an RN-BSN program help you meet your short-term goal
f. Identification of Long-term Goals (suggested length 1 paragraph)
1. Identify at least one, measurable, long-term, professional goal you want to accomplish within five years of program completion.
1. How can a mentor help you reach this goal?
g. Reflection of the BSN Role versus the ASN Role (suggested length 1-2 paragraphs)
1. Has your perception between the roles changed since the start of the course? Why or why not?
1. Support your views with a scholarly source.
h. Conclusion (suggested length 1 paragraph)
i. Summarize the key points from your paper.
3. Review your Turnitin Originality report and make revisions as needed.
4. Submit the final paper and to the dropbox for grading.
The Professional Identity Assignment is an APA scaffolded assignment. The overall purpose of the assignment is for the student to develop a professional identity in nursing by describing their reason for choosing nursing (1 paragraph); their nursing philosophy as it relates to their values, beliefs, strengths, and opportunities for growth (2 paragraphs); transition to the baccalaureate role (2 paragraphs with a scholarly course); identification of short-term and long-term outcomes (1 paragraph each); and reflection of the ADN versus BSN role (1 paragraph).. The Part II paper should be 6-7 pages in length (including the title and reference pages).
Guidelines for submission:
· Length Requirement – 4-5 pages of paper content (excluding title and references). This means your final submitted paper will be 6-7 pages in length with title and references.
· There is no abstract for this paper
· Using first-person pronouns for this paper is acceptable
· A minimum of two scholarly sources are required
· Follow APA 7th edition for headings, margins, spacing, font, citations, and references
· Proofread assignment for spelling and grammar
