2.) If the parent still refuses after you share this information, what is your ethical response?
You must post your discussion response before viewing posts of other students. Your response should have a minimum of 300 words and two (2) professional references. If your post does not meet the word count or professional reference requirement, it will not be graded and you will receive a \”0\” on the assignment.

The parent comes to the hospital asking why her child should get the MMR vaccine. The Child is 14 months and has never received the vaccine. CDC recommends that everyone receive MMR vaccine to protect them against measles. Both children and adults can receive the measles/MMR vaccination. According to 1 CDC (2021), all children should get two doses of the MMR vaccine. The first dose should begin between 12 and 15 months of age. The second dose for children is administered between 4 and 6 years of age. The purpose of the MMR vaccine is to prevent measles, mumps, and rubella. Failure to take the vaccine exposes people to the risk of contracting measles (CDC, 2021). The MMR is contraindicated in people who have a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction to MMR vaccine or part of it, pregnant women, and those who have weakened immunity due to illnesses such as HIV or cancer among others. Common side effects include fever, sore arm from the shot, mild rash, and temporary pain (CDC, 2021). These symptoms normally go away and do not need treatment.
In case the parent refuses after education, further assessment may be done to determine the reason for her refusal to use the MMR vaccine. Additionally, the therapist may with family, clergy, or another mediator (NORCAL, 2017). These individuals can be contacted with the permission of the parent. Also, the parent may be referred to for a mental health check to ensure there are no psychological issues. Interdisciplinary collaboration may be needed to help make correct decisions. The therapist can contact or discuss the issue with other care providers. The facility ethics committee may be involved in the issue. If the parent refuses completely, the therapist may ask her to sign a refusal form (NORCAL, 2017). All these are ethical responses to the client’s refusal of the MMR vaccine.
