Read Chapter 12 in the textbook. This chapter focuses on communication in organizations, understanding the process, and overcoming barriers. Communication in multinational companies is particularly challenging due to language and country-specific cultural norms.
Read Chapter 13 in the textbook. This chapter focuses on managing groups and teams, how to understand group dynamics, recognize barriers, and build cohesive teams. Team building in multinational companies may be similar in many ways to the US workplace but may differ in significantly.
Write: Discuss how your organization manages employees in other countries. If you are unemployed, choose a previous place of employment for the purpose of discussion in this paper. If your current or previous organization does not have locations and/or teams in other countries, please contact your instructor for direction on how to complete this assignment. Some questions to consider:
Does your organization have multinational teams? How multinational teams managed and monitored your organization? Are barriers to communication similar to those encountered local teams? Have you encountered communication missteps due to words and concepts that have different meaning in other cultures?
These questions are given to help you formulate your understanding of the subject as it relates to your personal work situation. You are not required to answer all the questions in your paper.
