Introduction

Tobacco smoking is a healthcare issue that needs serious attention. Tobacco is associated with many health problems, including heart diseases. Both CNN and Fox news have emphasized the health problems related to tobacco smoking (Rivas, 2020). According to Fox news tobacco contributes to about 20% of heart disease deaths. They presumed that if tobacco users would stop smoking, cases of heart diseases would drop by 50%. In the media coverage, Fox News stated that people who are smoking tobacco have a higher chance of developing an acute cardiovascular disease at a tender age (Rivas, 2020). World Health Organization survey results showed that people living with heart conditions are likely to succumb to high blood pressure and other related problems. According to CNN, tobacco smoking increases the risk of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, and others (CNN, n.d.). Tobacco is also dangerous during pregnancy.

Based on the two reports, the coherent belief is that tobacco smoking is harmful to health. Both the media reports acknowledge the fact that tobacco smoking increases the chances of developing cardiovascular diseases. CNN report suggested that tobacco smoking triples the risk of dying from stroke, aneurysms, high blood pressure, and other cardiovascular illnesses (CNN, n.d.). Respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema. Additionally, cancer is highly associated with tobacco smoking. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says cigarette smoking is responsible for 151,322 cancer deaths annually in the United States. Most of those (116,920) are from lung cancer (CNN, n.d.). Anyway, the inherent belief from the two media reports is that tobacco smoking is dangerous to one’s health.
