Health Care Delivery and Clinical Systems

The focus of this week’s practicum was on healthcare delivery and clinical systems. During the practicum experience, I learned several things about the nursing profession based on healthcare delivery and clinical systems. Nursing care delivery entails a complex clinical system consisting of people, equipment, technology, and other resources (AMIHM, 2018). All things come into play to enable effective nursing care delivery for the part of the clinical system.

During the practicum, the electronic medical record was a significant resource that helped in keeping patient records, tracking their progress, and others. This system also incorporated computerized orders for prescriptions, orders for tests, reporting of test results, and physician notes (AMIHM, 2018). Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOEs) are important in ambulatory and inpatient clinical information systems. Effective communication is a very crucial requirement of nursing care delivery (Islam et al., 2018). Furthermore, the intensive care unit information system reduced the time spent by physicians on documentation and increases the time available for patient care.

Besides, I also learned that nursing care involves interprofessional collaboration to optimize positive patient outcomes. Members of a multidisciplinary bring together different functional expertise to the task at hand (Morley & Cashell, 2017). Patients, family members, and stakeholders are part of the clinical system. They participate in the delivery of care as part of a multifunctional healthcare team. Based on the learning, my strengths include a strong background knowledge regarding nursing care, and the ability to work in an interprofessional team. Personal Weaknesses include a lack of adequate knowledge to work with some technologies that enhance nursing care delivery. To ensure optimal outcomes, staff training and continued development are essential (Morley & Cashell, 2017). This will keep them updated with knowledge regarding current technology, skills, and practices. In addition, necessary equipment and technology, and learning materials are crucial in ensuring optimal outcomes.
