Evaluation
Introduction
Evaluation is an essential tool for improving management in almost all organizations across industries. Organizational evaluation is a critical process for gathering valid information about organizational performance, including factors that affect its performance, and solutions if possible (Porter & Hawkins, 2019). Only through evaluation can the effectiveness of the organization be measured and understood, in terms of its problems, functioning, achievements, and others. Evaluation ensured that the objectives and goals are achieved, that the organization is adapting to new changes, and that the organization achieves the needs of its clients (Porter & Hawkins, 2019). In that regard, this paper evaluates the Habitat for Humanity organization to understand whether or not it is meeting the needs of its clients.
Stakeholder Analysis
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization that helps low-income people around the world to access decent housing. The work of the agency is overseen by a board of directors and senior leaders who collaborate to work towards a unified agenda (Habitat for Humanity, 2022). The organizational stakeholders include the board of directors, the senior leadership, corporations, individual philanthropists, governments, NGOs, academics, and policymakers (Habitat for Humanity, 2022). All these stakeholders have particular roles to play to ensure the organization achieves its defining goals.
The board of directors is led by the board chair, Mary Cameron. The board has a total of 21 individuals. Its functions include making directions for the organization, recruiting and supervising the chief executive officer, and making important decisions (Habitat for Humanity, 2022). The senior leadership is the organizational staff led by the chief executive officer (CEO), Jonathan Reckford. It consists of 28 individuals. They perform daily tasks within the organization and ensure various functions are performed. Corporations, NGOs, and individual philanthropists help with donations to ensure the availability of resources. The agency cooperates with governments to get approval (Habitat for Humanity, 2022). The governments and policymakers make regulations and policies and also provide donations. All these individuals are interested entities in this evaluation program.
Program Evaluation Plan
Purpose of Evaluation
The purpose of this evaluation is to determine the overall effectiveness of the organization in providing affordable and decent housing to all people who do not have the opportunity or privilege to attain homeownership (Habitat for Humanity, 2022). The main aim of the organization is to provide habitats or houses to people of low-income groups, who often become homeless. Most of these people live in poverty and some are displaced people (immigrants or local refugees) who are helpless (Shinn & Khadduri, 2020). Another purpose of this evaluation is to determine whether or not the organization’s resources are properly utilized to help low-income individuals and families live better. Based on the stakeholder analysis, it is clear that Habitat for Humanity is reliable on donations from various stakeholders to help the low-income and vulnerable communities attain decent houses (Habitat for Humanity, 2022). The resources the organization collects from the interested parties should do strictly the work for which they are intended.
Evaluation Questions
To successfully perform the evaluation, more relevant questions need to be developed to lead the respondents in providing useful information. The questions must be relevant to the purpose of the evaluation programs to ensure accurate, valid, and reliable information (Porter & Hawkins, 2019). Additionally, the answers will be analyzed and presented to various organizational stakeholders, hence, high integrity is essential in the entire process. First, the respondents should do it willingly to avoid biases (Porter & Hawkins, 2019). Before answering the survey, the respondents must sign a consent form and agree that whatever they will provide as answers will be a true reflection of the organization’s experiences.
The following questions will be asked:
- What is the average number of homeownership applicants does the organization receive every year?
- Out of the total applicants, what is the average number of applicants who obtain homeownership through this agency?
- After house allocation to the applicants, how many of them manage to successfully maintain their houses without needing further assistance from the agency?
- What can you say about resource management within the organization?
- Have there been cases of corruption, fund misappropriations, fund misuse, or money laundering within the organization.
- Can you agree that the organization is meeting its objective in terms of helping vulnerable people obtain decent houses?
- Can you agree that the organization has achieved excellent resource management?
Identified Concerns of the Stakeholders
Based on the stakeholder analysis, there are no serious concerns to caution about. However, the organization should strengthen its connection and collaboration with national and local governments to ensure successful operations (Porter & Hawkins, 2019). Proper collaboration with local and national governments will ensure adequate resources are available for sustainable, inclusive, safe, and transparent urban development. it will also help figure out how national and local government financing can be made more predictable and robust (Porter & Hawkins, 2019). National and local governments often have many of the same goals, which is to serve the citizens. Working together with these governments will ensure proper service delivery.
Conclusion
Organizational evaluation is important to identify its performance and areas of possible improvement. The organization to be evaluated in this case is Habitat for Humanity. It is a nonprofit housing organization that helps low-income people around the world to access decent housing. The purpose of this evaluation is to determine the overall effectiveness of the organization in providing affordable and decent housing as well as to determine whether or not the organization’s resources are properly utilized. The description has been sufficiently provided.
