Domestic Violence T5 D2

Domestic violence is a major health concern in many communities across the globe. It can have detrimental effects on one’s physical, emotional, and social health (Vicard-Olagne et al., 2022). A health care provider might detect domestic violence through physical assessments. Physical characteristics such as bruises on the arms, legs, neck, and other body parts. Broken bones. Black eyes sprained wrists, unexplained pain, and purple or red marks on the skin are all symptoms of domestic violence (Vicard-Olagne et al., 2022. Emotional characteristics may include constant apprehension, anxiety, agitation, and meekness. Other characteristics include skipping school or work, social isolation from the rest, and withdrawal from social events in children, adults, and the elderly might indicate a sign of domestic violence.

My facility often reports these instances if they overlap with reportable conditions. For instance, when an underage child is at risk of injury or death as a result of domestic violence (New York State, 2021). Also, when the damages to the victim are too much or likely to escalate due to domestic violence, then the facility may report the abuse to either a relevant state agency (responsible for domestic violence or human rights issues) or administrative police (New York State, 2021). The reporting clinician must provide clear evidence of the incident, risks, and important patient information.
