How could Christian perspectives prevent an employee from performing their required duties? As an HR representative, what legal and ethical responsibilities do you have to ensure all employees views and beliefs are being considered? Provide an example.
Discussion 8-1: Christian Perspective
Employers are required to accommodate their employees regardless of their religious inclinations. Workers usually have varied religious values, beliefs, and viewpoints. Such perspectives have an influence on an employee’s behaviors and actions at the place of work. Integrating all these employees is one of the strategies that an organization can use to embrace diversity (SHRM, 2022). The purpose of this discussion is to explain how Christian perspectives could workers from performing their roles at the place of work. The discussion will also include a description of the legal and ethical responsibilities of a human resource (HR) representative of ensuring that the views and beliefs of employees are being considered.
Christian perspectives can prevent an employee from performing his or her duties at work when such duties contradict their religious values, beliefs, and perspectives. For example, a Christian whose religious values and beliefs are against the use of contraceptives might not provide contraception services in a hospital that offers these services. Since this might affect the relationship between patients and employees and might negatively affect a company’s reputation when not addressed.
An organization can best manage the varied Christian perspectives among employees by creating and observing a culture that encourages diversity. The legal responsibility of a human resource (HR) representative for ensuring that all workers’ views and beliefs are being considered is to demonstrate legal compliance to laws and policies that encourage inclusive practices. The ethical responsibility of an HR representative is to respect the employees’ rights of expression and their religious viewpoints (SHRM, 2022b).
