 The Instructor

Instructors are teachers who teach students both in the school enrolment and away. According to Fullan (2016), these individuals have a special role to play in educational change. Educational change depends on the teachers’ actions and what they think.  When schools establish professional learning communities, teachers constantly search for new ways of making improvements. Teachers also put into practice the new educational changes (Fullan, 2016). Therefore, instructors are part and parcel of the change process.

The Administrator

The administrators also have a special role in the change process. The most powerful is the chief administrator, who has an advocacy role in education (Fullan, 2016). The chief administrator works with his/her staff (other administrators), especially the board. In places where the district administration does not have an interest in educational innovation, such change might not happen and vice versa. Fullan (2016) suggests that the chief district administrator and central district staff are critical sources of advocacy, support, and initiation of new programs.

The Learner

The learner is the student, who also appears at the center of the change process. According to Fullan (2016), normally teachers and learners will shout out of desperation if there is a need for a change in the curriculum. Everyone thinks of the students as the beneficiaries of the change but rarely as participants of the change process. All successful education should engage the hearts and minds of students (Fullan, 2016). This would mean incorporating students’ minds, experiences, and views.
