Organizations may have developed a detailed interview process with standard questions for each position, pre-employment assessments, and other selection tools. Specify one standard interview question, including the job title. Discuss why you developed this question and the response you would expect a potential candidate to provide.

Discussion 3-1: Standard Interview Question

Interviewing is a crucial step of the hiring process because it helps a company to select candidates with the right competencies and with characteristics that match job descriptions. One of the ways to ensure reliability during employee recruitment and selection is to utilize standard interview questions (Strategic Human Resource Management, 2022). The purpose of this assignment is to develop and discuss a standard interview question that a company would use to fill the position of Project Manager.

Using a standard interview question to evaluate applicants offers the interviewees a uniform evaluation platform. An example of a standard interview question that would be appropriate for the position of a project manager is “when you are balancing multiple projects, how do you keep yourself organized? (Oliver, 2021)”. The rationale for developing this question is that when hiring a candidate for the position of a Project Manager, a company wants to understand how an applicant uses his or her potential and time to remain productive. A person who is able to keep himself or herself organized can stay focused and follow work plans to attain the desired goals. Therefore, by asking such a question, an organization is interested in knowing whether an application can stick to deadlines even when there are several activities to be accomplished.

When using a standard interview question during a job interview, an employer usually expects to obtain almost similar responses from applicants. For example, when asking the standard interview stated in the paragraph above, the response that an employer would expect a potential candidate to provide is to describe how he or she managed time and stayed on track when working on a project (Oliver, 2021). From such an explanation, the interviewer will be able to tell how the candidate keeps himself or herself organized.
