Discussion 2-1: Social Media

Technological advancements have significantly transformed operations in organizations including employee hiring processes. For example, contemporary organizations use social media and online platforms to a large extent to attract and hire potential workers. The organization is currently using a number of processes, procedures, and specific websites to attract and acquire potential employees from the online setting. These include LinkedIn, Indeed, Jobcase, Twitter, Facebook, and Ziprecruiter (Villeda et al., 2019). From these websites, the organization is able to view the profiles of many job seekers and contact them whenever there is a vacancy.

Using social media and other online job search websites such as LinkedIn is associated with some benefits and challenges. One of the advantages is that the job seeker’s profile can easily be viewed by many potential employers internationally (Okolie & Irabor, 2017). Additionally, a job seeker has an opportunity of presenting his or her curriculum vitae online to be viewed by companies without having to travel to those organizations physically to deliver papers. However, the fact that there are many job seekers who have posted their profiles on these platforms reduce an individual’s chances of being hired. Again, the approach locks out other job seekers who do not have the technologies and internet to access these online platforms (Okolie & Irabor, 2017).

Notably, employers who use social media and other online platforms to look for potential employees often face some drawbacks too. One of them is that the process of finding the most suitable candidate can be time-consuming considering the fact that there is always a plethora of profiles to be viewed. Again, a company is unable to verify the credibility of the information posted by job seekers, a factor that might result in repeated interviews and delayed hiring to fill an existing vacant position (Okolie & Irabor, 2017). To reduce these drawbacks, a company can consider using an employment agency to speed up the hiring process.
