Discussion 1
Educational change is the shifting of paradigm and efforts within education to impose reforms. According to Fullan (2015), change may come about because it is either imposed on individuals or because they voluntarily initiated or participated in it. Educational change can be perceived either from objective or subjective perspectives. From the subjective perspective, it may mean the classroom press that needs teachers to adjust to some changes to deal with individual students. These could mean approaches to teaching and learn for individual students (Fullan, 2015). From the objective perspective, it could mean a major innovation in the education systems that lead to change in practice. An example of educational change includes the implementation of a new program or new policy.
The process of educational change is never smooth and involves ups and downs. According to Fullan (2015), the problem is how those involved in change can come to understand what it is that should change, and how it can be best accomplished while realizing that the what and how constantly interact with and reshape each other. Teachers need to first understand the meaning of educational change. Problems related to clarity appear in almost all studies of change (Fullan, 2015). Sometimes teachers are not able to identify the essential features of the innovation they are undertaking in the educational sector.
A successful educational change is achieved by addressing the identified problems. a successful educational change is marked by some elements. For instance, it focuses on a small number of ambiguous goals (Fullan, 2015). A successful educational change ensures that instructions and student achievement are at the core of the matter. Additionally, a successful educational change establishes transparency of the process including the results.
