Conduct research on the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). What is the role of this organization and its purpose as it relates to the guidance it provides to human resource (HR) professionals? Explain how SHRM assists HR professionals effectively and efficiently complete their tasks/duties and support leadership within the organization.

Discussion 1-1: SHRM

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the agency that helps employees and employers to stay strong and move their organizations forward. Employers and employees usually face numerous issues that might at times be difficult to address without strong support. The role of the SHRM is to create positive work environments where both employers and their employees can exist in harmony. The agency addresses the issues that are affecting workers and their employers in their organizations (Society for Human Resource Management, 2022a). The purpose of SHRM is clearly evidenced in its mission, vision, and purpose. The purpose of SHRM is “to elevate the HR profession. Its mission is to empower people and workplaces by advancing HR practices and by maximizing human potential, while its vision is to build a world of work that works for all (Society for Human Resource Management, 2022a).” The SHRM guides human resource (HR) professionals to create a better workplace where everyone can thrive.

The purpose of SHRM is to advance human resource practice globally. It assists HR professionals to effectively and efficiently complete their tasks/duties and support leadership within the organizations. The agency achieves these goals by creating learning and development opportunities for HR professionals to enable them to advance their knowledge and skills of how to create peaceful workplaces (Society for Human Resource Management, 2022b). SHRM also creates partnership opportunities for HR professionals to enable them to identify the best policies to address their issues. Another important way through which SHRM assists HR professionals is to create opportunities for them to obtain certifications (Society for Human Resource Management, 2022b). For several years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, SHRM offered maximum support to HR professionals through adaptation, partnership, and strong leadership and in the process enabling them to effectively and efficiently complete their tasks/duties.
