Community Practice Models

Community health aims at improving the well-being of every individual in the community. A community is a group of people sharing a common interest, place, and experience. There are various models for community change to promote and improve community practice (Boehm & Cnaan, 2012). These community models include community/social planning, community/social action, and locality development models. These three are the original and most recognized models of community practice. Social planning depicts technical processes for solving problems that are rational and deliberately planned to address social problems (Calgary, 2022). Social actions assume that the vulnerable group in society needs to be organized to make a demand on the entire community for improved treatment or increased resources. Other models include feminist models, policy practice, community capacity, and many more.

These community models have certain characteristics in common. For example, all these models are produced from the main categories of community practice, such as areas of intervention, goals, strategies, roles of the practitioners, and tactics (Boehm & Cnaan, 2012). Every model possesses a unique combination of the above categories. This is a characteristic that has been observed across the models. The reason for a particular synthesis is related to the unique effect obtained by connecting these categories into a coherent framework to enhance understanding of the domain of community practice (Calgary, 2022). Additionally, all the identified community models have a lot to contribute to community practice. All these community models make the field better, generate knowledge and research, and guide students and practitioners toward the formulation of strategies in practice. The models are very important to ensuring successful community practice (Boehm & Cnaan, 2012). They offer an intellectual foundation of community practice.
