You are right as you mention that healthcare providers should be able to look at different model and differentiate at which model would better serve the practice. Some can be very time consuming and other not very cost effective if you are a very small practice. This is a great point that you make and definitely should be considered. As healthcare is currently changing and patients are having to pay higher deductibles it is beneficial to do the best we can to save the patient money and still provide high quality care. I agree that both models have their benefits.

Does it seem like there are a lot of points that need to be hit on with the pt in order to meet the guidelines on the value based payment option?

Capstone: Response

Yes, I agree that there are a lot of points that need to be hit on with the patient in order to meet the guidelines on the value-based payment option. As Cuenca (2017) points out, the administrative tasks associated with the implementation of a value-based system are a source of burden for many physicians and healthcare providers who do not adequately understand factors that determine success. Apart from ensuring the cost-effectiveness of the care that is provided to patients, nurses should also understand and be able to monitor quality measures that define the effectiveness of value-based payment options. Besides, they should know the right data to collect in order to gather sufficient information about their patients. Notably, healthcare organizations should allow nurses and other healthcare providers to access patient’s data within their workflow that they need to make appropriate decisions regarding value-based payment models (Cuenca, 2017). Through constant training of staff on the implementation of value-based payment models, healthcare organizations will be able to equip their employees with the skills and knowledge that they need to succeed in a value-based system.
