Bullying tends to interfere with the nurse’s effort to provide quality health care services. Bullying has a negative influence on collaboration and coordination of health care services, which are essential to provide more efficient and effective care (Ciocco, 2018). Bullying among nurses disrupts communication and causes delays in the provision of nursing care. Nurses experiencing bullying are most likely to cause medical errors due to anxiety, stress, frustration, and low self-esteem. Like any other discipline, nursing has particular professional standards that govern its practice. The nursing professional standards are aimed at eliminating negative energy and behavior that often lead to bullying. The nursing professional standards play an important role in preventing and rectifying bullying incidences in different healthcare settings. Processional standards in nursing practice create conducive environments for nurses to practice (Lúanaigh, 2017). Nursing managers and leaders can create national, local, or organizational policies that can prevent or resolve issues related to bullying in health care. For instance, they can formulate a policy that confers disciplinary action so that all nurses and other care providers can understand that bullying is prohibited and regarded as an offense (Lúanaigh, 2017). These leaders can also advocate for bullying victims to get justice and punish perpetrators. The leaders will also try and detect elements of bullying and whether a safe environment is created for new nurses (Lúanaigh, 2017). Novice nurses tend to experience most bullying in the nursing practice, hence, the need to be vigilant to ensure they do not experience the same.

There are some additional areas in health care that nurse leaders together with nursing leaders and managers can explore to ensure professionalism while addressing bullying. One important area or aspect that nurse leaders can focus on is the missing link between leaders, departments, and nursing managers (Lúanaigh, 2017). The educational aspect is also important in this situation. Nursing leaders and managers can go through some special training to gain skills on how to promote cohesion and correction of bullying within the working environment (Ciocco, 2018). Leaders should be able to use legal channels for solving issues related to bullying in nursing practice.

A Leadership Style that Would Best Address the Chosen Issue

Nursing leaders can adopt various leadership styles to help them address the issue. Democratic leadership is the best style to effectively address bullying in nursing practice Al (Khajeh, 2018). Democratic leadership involves members of the group participating in a decision-making process, therefore, it is a shared leadership style. Through this leadership style, leaders can form a board comprised of skilled and experienced nurses (Khajeh, 2018). The board should be able to listen to every claim of bullying from both sides. The issue should be investigated thoroughly before making any verdict. Democratic leadership allows for open communication, hence, can help identify the root cause of the problem and possible remedies to avoid future occurrences of bullying (Khajeh, 2018). This leadership style is selected because it will include fairness while effectively addressing the issue.
